Coolant Temperature Sensor
The Coolant Temperature Sensor measures the temperature of the coolant. This information is used by the computer to adjust the amount of fuel delivered to the engine to compensate for a cold engine. This replaced the choke mechanism that was used on vehicles that had an old-fashioned carburetor.
